Former Palace Chef’s horror when Princess Diana said she was taking boys to McDonald’…

No matter how fancy the food you serve children, no matter how good it may taste, many of them will still crave a McDonald’s Happy Meal.

And it seems not even princes are immune to this desire.

Darren McGrady, a former Buckingham Palace Chef, has shared numerous royal food secrets with The Mirror, including the time Princess Diana cancelled lunch to take William and Harry to McDonald’s.

Mr McGrady, who worked in the palace kitchen for 11 years, appeared pretty disappointed by the situation – asking Diana to let him make burgers for her sons instead.

But according to the Princess, burgers weren’t the reason the young boys were so keen to have lunch at the fast-food chain.

He said: “I remember the Princess [Diana] came into the kitchen one day and said, ‘Cancel lunch for the boys I’m taking them out, we’re going to McDonald’s.’

“And I said, ‘Oh my god your royal highness, I can do that, I can do burgers.’

“And she said, ‘No, it’s the toy they want.'”

So there, you have it, I guess no child is immune to the allure of a Happy Meal toy.

And this wasn’t the only time the family visited McDonald’s.

Diana’s former butler and close friend Paul Burrell previously told this publication that the trio’s Saturday night ritual involved McDonald’s food.

The loving mum would take her boys to get Big Macs and chips.

They would then return home and sit on a giant stuffed hippopotamus Diana had in front of the TV and watch Blind Date.

Mr Burrell said: “The three of them would nip to McDonald’s for a Big Mac and fries before coming back to watch Blind Date. All three of them would squat on this massive, stuffed hippopotamus Diana had in her sitting room.

“They loved Blind Date and I’d hear them all screaming things like ‘Oh don’t pick him!’ and ‘Lorra, lorra fun’.”
